Properties on the Road to Ronda

The road to Ronda is a fantastic location for a Marbella residence, with an abundance of property types to choose from all in great locations, close to amenities and with good connections to other cities in Andalusia and the coast.

The Ronda road is one of the main roads leading from the Costa del Sol going North, beginning on the coast with the typical Spanish town of San Pedro de Alcántara (recently described in our blog “San Pedro de Alcántara and its annual October Feria”).

Ronda is a city in the Sierra De las Nieves National Park, province of Malaga and has remains of prehistoric settlements dating back to the Neolithic Age. A mixture of cultures from early Celts, to Phoenicians, Romans and Muslims, with a large mix of architectural heritage and many beautiful sites to see. Typically, an afternoon out or day trip from Marbella, located approx. 60kms away.

Today the bottom on the Ronda Road offers a well-established large community of residential complexes, mostly offering wonderful open views over the various famous golf courses and down to the sea, in a peaceful setting with natural surroundings. A large international community of residents using their properties either on a permanent or holiday basis. This is also a sough after area for investors as holiday rentals can be very fruitful.

THE GATED COMMUNITIES

Properties along the areas of the Costa del Sol typically form part of a gated complex and offer communal facilities and security services. Here is a list of gated communities found along the Ronda Road:

El Capitán

A traditional gated community of villas, both Mediterranean and modern in style, set just between San Pedro and the Benahavis road, below Puerto Del Almendro. Selling brand new villas and plots with modern villa projects.

El Madroñal

An established community of luxury villas with 6 access gates, immersed in the Mediterranean countryside and natural surroundings, offering peace and tranquility year round.

Los Arqueros

Constructed in the late 1990s and 2000s by the internationally renowned developers Taylor Woodrow and Wimpey. Still developing today, the gated community boasts independent villas, apartment and townhouse communities, a commercial center, and a famous golf course with club house that has become a main focal point for residents within the community.

Las Colinas

A newer complex of brand new modern apartments set just north of Los Arqueros on the right hand side.

La Heredia

A traditional style Andalusian village community set on the hillside, extremely individual and unique with picturesque streets, architectural styles and colorful properties ranging from small apartments to spacious townhouses and grand semidetached villas. A main entrance and exit to the community, gated and secure, with a charming row of shops and coffee shops at its entrance.

La Quinta

Created by the developer Ricardo Arranz, the main Access to La Quinta is to the right of the Ronda road, this large community boasts villas, townhouses and apartment complexes on a hilly landscape providing stunning views of the surroundings and down to the sea. La Quinta includes individual communites such as: Los Balcones, El Mirador, Los Arcos, La Quinta Hills, Buena Vista de La Quinta and Alta de La Quinta.

La Zagaleta

The most exclusive residential estate and highest point from the sea level in Marbella and Southern Spain, an extremely secure gated community of 400 villa plots, with 2 private golf courses, a lake, an equestrian center, heliport and a members’ clubhouse. On-site service company for house maintenance and services as well as begin the sole members and invited guests’ private estate.

Monte Halcones

Build in the early 2000s and set high on the hillside, offering spectacular views, this residential community of charming apartments, townhouses and villas with mature tropical gardens. Accompanied by a working commercial center at its entrance, is a very popular and established community.

Puerto Del Almendro

A smaller community of established villas close to the town of San Pedro, surrounded by natural forest and with a few modern apartment complexes as well as independent villas.

THE GOLF COURSES

The Ronda Road is home to a various well known golf courses and country clubs, including:

La Quinta

3 x nine-hole courses set to the right hand side of the Ronda Road, with the five-star hotel “The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort and Spa”.

El Higueral Golf Course

A nine-hole picturesque, par 36 resort designed to make full enjoyment from each round, with beautiful features and vistas. Located to the left above San Pedro town, below Los Arqueros.

Los Arqueros Golf and Country Club

Set in 2 valleys with views down to the sea, and can be seen when driving up the Ronda Road. A 71 par golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros and opened in 1991.

La Zagaleta

One of the most exclusive golf resorts in Southern Europe with 36 parkland holes, the old and new course with a Mediterranean forest background and views down to the sea.
