AREAS: SAN PEDRO TO ESTEPONA
LAUDE – Founded in 2004 and located beachside in San Pedro de Alcántara, based upon the English National Curriculum with pupils ranging from 3-18 years with an option to study the Spanish system from 12 years old. Offering the full British Curriculum (the International Primary Curriculum, GCSEs and ALevels) and Spanish equivalent (ESO and Bachillerato). A truly inclusive community school, embracing the individuality of every child and ensuring their safety and wellbeing as high priority, providing individualized support where needed. Music and the arts are celebrated, giving every child the opportunity to embrace their creativity and develop their confidence. Acknowledged as one of the top 100 international schools in Spain by El Mundo, one of only five schools in Andalucia to achieve the award.
SAINT GEORGES SCHOOL – Also located beachside in the tranquil setting of El Cortijo Blanco, this school is owned and directed by a husband and wife team, opened 23 years ago, their dream was to provide a top British style education for children aged 3-8 years old whilst providing Spanish language at the same time. The school is recognized by the British Department of Education and the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
CALPE COLLEGE – Set second line beach, behind the eucalyptus forest on San Pedros beach, this school prides itself as being a family of learning with their motto “Happy To Learn”. Using the British National Curriculum as well as the Spanish National Curriculum and Spanish as a second language, with a high teacher to pupil ratio for pupils from 2-10 years old. French is introduced once a week from Year 4 upwards. Facilities include 3 separate play areas, a large dining room, a well-stocked library, a learning support room, interactive and touch screens as well as TV and computers. The school offers a large range of after school activities as well.
COLEGIO SAN JOSE; ESTEPONA AND GUADALMINA – 2 schools one located in Guadalmina Baja and the other located in the heart of Estepona town. San Jose Schools are private and bilingual, facilitating all ages of the education system up to 18years old between the 2 schools. The Estepona school (the eldest of the two) first phase was inaugurated in 1973 with a model infrastructure extremely advanced for its time, with large gardens, sports facilities, library and science department as well as a private transport service which still exists today. The Guadalmina school was inaugurated in 1994 and reflects Esteponas wonderful facilities and transport service.
THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL ESTEPONA – MONTESSORI – Situated in Benavista, Estepona on the New Golden Mile, this school follows the British National Curriculum, founded in 2004, accepting pupils from 2-12 years old. The nursery follows the Montessori approach helping co-ordination and motor skills through Montessori exercises for practical life. The purpose built school is set in a secure fenced compound of 3.700m2 including a luxury facility with grassed garden for younger children, an all-weather sports ground and computer suite as well as digital interactive smart boards within the school.
AREA: NUEVA ANDALUCIA
ALOHA COLLEGE MARBELLA – With over 30 years’ experience in British-based education representing over 57 nationalities, taking students from 3-18 years. Founded in 1982 starting with 210 pupils to currently approx. 840 pupils. With a British style education while offering education in Spanish language and culture. The school has undergone continual improvements in the last few years, including improving their sports facilities with a new football pitch, certified by FIFA in 2012. Approximately 2000m2 of multi-purpose sports area with professional stage and gymnasium. In addition to their science block, arts block and library/resources area. Aloha College aims to offer a gold standard in International education, wanting all their pupils to achieve their maximum capabilities in a happy, secure learning environment.
AREA: GOLDEN MILE
SWANS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL – Established in 1971, originally a small primary school in Marbella El Capricho area, the original villa still makes up part of what is now a modern primary school facility on the El Capricho site, while a brand new, purpose-built school was constructed in Sierra Blanca for Years 6-13 in 2006. As an international school, languages are central to life at Swans, with many children speaking two or more languages fluently. Students have lessons in English and Spanish, while French is taught up to the end of Key Stage 3. After-school activities also offer Mandarin Chinese and German. Swans offers the official state education program in Spanish allowing students to obtain the ESO certificate at the end of their secondary education.
AREA: MARBELLA EAST
THE ENGLISH INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE – Located East of Marbella town, The English International College was founded in 1982. Established to be “free of all political, racial or religious prejudice”. As an English school in Spain with over 70% of the students of UK origin, they also benefit from pupils of over 20 differing nationalities. In 1984 the school was admitted into the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) and later recognized by the Ministerio de Educación y Ciéncias in Spain, having received its accreditation from the Consejería de Educación of the Junta de Andalucía. Some of the schools’ facilities include a 25-meter competition sized swimming pool, a learner pool, Astroturf sports pitch, 2 basketball courts, volleyball court with sprung surface and a climbing wall.
COLEGIO ALEMAN JUAN HOFFMANN – GERMAN SCHOOL MARBELLA – A private and independent German school in the Malaga region, approved by the Spanish educational board and officially recognized by the German Ministry of Culture and Education. A fully bilingual school that in 2008 was awarded the quality stamp of approval for excellence as a German school in a foreign country, the first of its kind. Founded in 1898 in Malaga city, open to both German and Spanish students. As with other German schools the allies closed the Malaga school at the end of World War II. In 1967 the school was reconstituted by Consul General Juan Hoffmann. Currently offering 10 school bus lines for transport, the school boasts an astrological observatory, wonderful sports facilities, swimming pool, art and music departments, library, as well as park for the primary children. Set in the hills East of Marbella town, an ideal setting surrounded by nature.
COLEGIO ALBORAN – A Spanish private school boasting continued contact with nature and ecological education in a privileged setting. Offering a learning program from 3-18 years old. During the school year, the standard education is complemented by an extensive program of complementary and extracurricular activities, in addition to services such as dining room, school transport and phycologists. The schools’ installations include a covered sports pavilion, a gymnasium, IT facilities, swimming pool, languages department, chemistry lab, ecological garden where the children learn to grow foods and plants, a farm and an equestrian center.
LAS CHAPAS SCHOOL – ECOS – A private bilingual school taking students from 0-18 years old. The school was built in phases, giving an urban architectural style to the collection of buildings, building began in 1992 when the school was founded then again in 2009 when additional sections were added. Las Chapas is a bilingual center authorized by the Junta de Andalucía in the Infant, Primary and Secondary stages, as well as being an examining center for Trinity College and Cambridge in the UK.
ANTHONY’S COLLEGE – A co-educational British school, the oldest British school on the coast, founded in 1968. Teaching the British curriculum alongside the Spanish ESO and Bachillerato to students from 3-18 years old. Set in the Mijas Pueblo area behind the town of Fuengirola. Many of the students are accepted in top universities in the UK. Initially a drama school originally established in Benalmadena, it became full education in 1974 and moved to its current location in 1994. The school boasts a school hall with stage, science laboratories and an AstroTurf playing field, as well as offering a large range of sports, participating in school competitions on an annual basis. The school is also the center for Stagecoach Drama School on the coast.
Additional schools further afield towards Malaga include the Norwegian school – Den Norske Skolen located in the Benalmadena area, the Swedish pre-school in Marbella – Svenska Skolen and the Finish school in Fuengirola – Escuela Finlandesa.
The Costa del Sol also offers Tutoring and University entrance exam coaching and libraries.
